Connections Through Photography Programme
The course is divided into three main sections: understanding photography and interpreting stories through images; sharing personal photographs and expressing individual stories through these images; and discussing ways to engage in photography today.
The program is scheduled as follows:
Week 1
Introduction to MMPH and the Connections program, including an overview of the six-week course. MMPH will present a variety of printed images depicting people, places, and things. The leader will provide context for each image, including where and why it was taken. Questions will be answered, and each participant will choose one image to take home and reflect on, with plans to discuss their choice in Week 2.
Week 2
Participants will share why they selected their chosen images and discuss how these images make them feel. A group discussion will be facilitated by the MMPH leader. Depending on the level of interaction, participants will either be given another image to choose or be asked to bring their own image to the next session.
Week 3
Similar to Week 2, participants will explain their image choices. If they bring their own images, they will provide a deeper explanation of their significance, such as connections to family, friends, or events. This may lead to broader group discussions as images evoke shared memories.
Weeks 4-6
Weeks 4 to 6 will follow a similar format but will be adjusted to suit the group dynamics and emerging conversations. If participants are interested in learning more about photography, additional instruction can be provided outside of group sessions. Basic tips on taking better pictures with phones can also be offered if needed.
At the end of the program, a portrait photographer can be arranged to take individual or group portraits, which can be provided digitally or in print as a keepsake from the Connections Through Photography. programme.
